Alecia Marsh: EPiC’s Staff Spotlight

Posted on October 14, 2025

In honor of ADHD Awareness month we are spotlighting Alecia Marsh, our Early Childhood Education and Special Education Program Manager! Alecia has extensive experience being a teacher across several grades and educational differences.

Can you tell us a bit about your background in education and what led you to specialize in special education?

I earned my undergraduate degree from UNC Greensboro and my graduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill. While I didn’t initially set out to work in special education, I truly believe the field chose me…

I spent about 8 years as a special education teacher, working in both self-contained and resource settings. I later stepped into leadership roles, including as a special education coordinator and interim director. Throughout it all, I remained centered on what mattered most: meeting the needs of my students. I realized I wanted to make an impact in a different capacity that could reach beyond the classroom and into the broader community.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future of the special education program here at EPiC?

Looking forward, I’m excited to keep growing the program and finding new ways to meet families where they are. One of my biggest goals is to help bridge the disconnect between home and school by inviting educators into these conversations. I also want this to be a space where parents’ voices are front and center. I see myself as a resource, here to support and amplify what families are already doing.

What do you hope students and families take away from being part of this program?

I want participants to walk away with a stronger sense of self and a real feeling of community. Special education can feel overwhelming and isolating at times, but no one should have to go through it alone.

It’s also a space where advocacy becomes accessible. Many families don’t realize they’re already advocating in powerful ways. This program helps give language to those efforts and offers tools to build on that strength. Whether you're just starting this journey or have been on it for years, there’s a place for you here.
