Empowered Parents in Community (EPiC)

Empowered Parents in Community (EPiC) is a Black-led, community-rooted, decolonizing, collaborative, strength-based organization unapologetically focused on Black children and their success at school and in life. We are a non-profit, 501c3 organization that’s cultivating Black leadership through collective organization and advocating for accountability at all levels to close the educational opportunity gap.

What We’re About

We help dismantle systemic racial inequities in the education system through collective organizing and intentional engagement of Black parents, caregivers, and communities.

We empower people to advocate for high-quality educational opportunities and the equitable distribution of resources within schools and across school districts, from early childhood through college and career.

Our Core Beliefs

  • Parents are essential in both supporting and holding schools accountable.
  • When parents understand racial equity and teachers feel supported, we can foster collaboration for the success of all students, especially those marginalized.
  • Parents who have the desire, time, and resources to commit can fiercely “stand in the gap” for those who do not, without judgment.
  • By combining our wisdom and resources, parents and community partners can drive meaningful progress in eliminating educational inequities.
  • We trust the lived experience of committed parents who are stepping in to close the opportunity gap.
